HOW TO FAIL UPWARDS: THE INSPIRING, SHOCKING & HILARIOUS ADVENTURES OF A BORN ENTREPRENEUR
December 2nd , 8pm, Hotel V in Amsterdam
The economic misery that has hogged the headlines for the past three years had at least one positive side effect: an exponentially growing number of people take the opportunity to start their own business. Existing businesses are forced to innovate their products and/or their way of doing business and listen better to their (potential) markets and clients. Besides a lot of hard work, cutting costs and gloomy predictions about future earnings, there is also an important upside to this development:
An unlimited creative and hitherto untapped potential is about to blossom. The number of new innovative products and services that will become reality will grow exponentially worldwide.
This is also noticeable in The Netherlands: the Kamer van Koophandel announced on October 18th that a 15% increase in startup companies is expected for 2011 compared to 2010. Over 100.000 new registrations of startups have been recorded so far this year already.
This raises some inevitable questions: which of the huge number of potentially successful entrepreneurs will get their idea realized and even make it big? Is there a blueprint for success? Can anyone succeed or do you absolutely need specific genes or skills?
Sheridan (a.k.a. Shed) Simove, the relentless, scandalous, maverick British inventor, creative entrepreneurial phenomenon, performer, author and novelty gift entrepreneur will share his view that anyone with al good idea can make things happen and disclose how it is done.
Shed's passion is to tackle things that have never been done before - and he has proven to be very good at it. His ideas and resulting products range from 'adult sweets', TV shows, gifts, his own currency and books.
On this evening he will share his inspiring and sometimes hilarious experiences plus his tips for how to make anything you desire come to life. In his talk about creativity, ideas and how to make anything you desire actually happen, Shed will entertain and inspire ca. 150 creative and/or entrepreneurial spirits: designers, writers, innovators and anyone else with a great idea for a business or a product that has been launched or is about to be realized. The fast moving, funny and inspiring performance melds stories from Shed's life with techniques for coming up with ideas and tips for how to make them happen.
In short: an electric idea-generating atmosphere combined with a very entertaining performance AND very practical advice for any (would be) creative entrepreneur.
Reservations can be made via the Hotel V, mail to:events@hotelv.nl. Admission cost is 5 euros.
On Saturday December 3, 2011 Shed will be at The American Book Center all day. He'll be bringing all of his inventions to play with and wonder at, (or 'tut-tut' at - they're those kind of inventions). Some of these objects have never been seen in public before , including prototypes of his latest ideas. It will be a grand day of 'show & tell', Q&A and amazing ideas. Shed will of course also be signing his books Ideas Man, and What Every Man Thinks About Apart From Sex.
